I am excited to be an Affiliate with HeartMath. HeartMath produces products that I have used frequently the last couple years in my practice. They are very effective. I have personally and professionally used the Freeze-Framer, EmWave, the Quiet Joy CD and the Heart Zones CD. I have also read Overcoming Emotional Chaos and I plan to read Transforming Stress soon. I have been working with the exciting products you find when you hit the button above for about the last 2 years. These work.
They work with the range of people who have experienced stress: CEOs, MDs, boys playing sports and me.
They will help with the extremes: trauma, everyday worries, test anxiety, improving athletic performance, peak performance, etc.
What I want to explain to you about these products is that I have used them myself.

It is a great first step in beginning to use biofeedback in your daily life.
Being trained as a clinical psychologist, I am very driven by research and proof. It takes a lot to convince me - you can ask my wife! There has to be research evidence first, which HeartMath has. But that is only the first layer. Then I have to then see the products work for me. I have seen these work with me, with my children and with my patients. I want you to buy these products because I believe in them. They work.
However, what is critical with these products as with most psychological interventions they only work if you apply them. So, if you plan to buy a book or the Freeze Framer or the EmWave, but you will simply set it on the shelf then don't do it. If you want to investigate an effective way to manage anxiety then go and buy these products, but use them. Use them consistently.
These products definitely help those seeking personal growth and those who want to get a much better grasp of their emotional health and smoothing the ups and downs the Freeze-Framer and EmWave along with the books and CDs from HeartMath will help.For those who seek peak performance these tool are ideal. I have worked with a range of people using these tools from preteen boys, to teenage girls, to middle aged adults who own companies. These tools help. The tools were originally developed to aid athletes in getting in the 'zone' for optimal or peak performance, but it has been found that they help with a variety of other health issues, namely managing stress.
So if you are tired of living in fear. It is time to take action.
What I find really helpful about the Freeze-Framer is that it gives a person instantaneous feedback about whether or not they are actually relaxing.
This quantitative feedback is what really appeals to my research-trained mind.
I have taught patients a variety of breathing and relaxation techniques, but with the feedback you actually know whether you are helping the patient calm him or herself down.
They can take this product home and hone this skill. That is the critical point. In a way it is like taking a therapist home.
If you don't continue to practice and discipline yourself to use it then nothing will help.

EMWAVE
Here is the thing that is cool about the EMWAVE above: You can do stuff while you have it on. If you get the extra ear sensor you clip the EmWave to your belt and the ear clip to your ear and then you work in your office. Being a psychologist who runs his own practice I have to do things that I really do not enjoy: billing or filing for example. I clip on the EmWave and the sound and tone can help me to stay in the ZONE. This keeps me in a better mood than when I do not use the EmWave while working. This saves energy. What happens without it is that I start to get annoyed and my shoulders get tight, then my neck and before I know it I am filled with stress and I want to quit before I am done. With the EmWave I move at a more reasonable pace and make the challenge to stay in medium or high while doing tasks I dislike. I have a guy who uses this when he is out in the field to calm down during breaks or before he has to return nasty phone calls. Its portability allows for you to be more active while you use it and helps you to get into the ZONE while in the field or in the midst of your daily life. Check it out. It basically looks kinda like a sleek ipod with a light on it. Pretty unobtrusive. Pretty COOL.

This is a cognitive training program. The way this works is that a family would take out a 6 month or 1 year lease to use the program. The 6 month program is about $295. You must do a minimum of 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week or you may do up to 2 hours a day for 5 days a week. This program requires a minimum of 20 hours to see an impact. This can be a way to supplement EEG biofeedback before or after completing all sessions. Or even during the same time period. Within sessions Dr. Shinaver actually combines EEG biofeedback with Captain's log at later sessions.
