Psychological Testing:
Scheduling
Psychological Testing varies in terms of types of testing and length of time required to complete the testing. Testing might last for 30 minutes or for 2 or 3 hours. Also, billing includes additional time spent writing and intrepreting results. The exceptioin to this would be computerized testing with a computerized report. Also, some rating scales will often need to be completed by parents for psychological testing and turned in on the day of testing. Otherwise a report cannot be completed until such scales are received. These matters will have to be discussed with Dr. Shinaver in more detail.
Individual Therapy:
Scheduling
Obviously individual therapy is one-on-one psychotherapy. Dr. Shinaver tends to be cognitive behavioral in his focus in traditional therapy. The therapy session typically begins on the hour and lasts 45 to 50 minutes. In some rare circumstances the session may last as long as 90 minutes. When this is necessary it will have to be discussed with Dr. Shinaver in more detail.
Family Therapy can include the 'identified patient' often a child in families or it may not include that person which is categorized as family therapy without patient present. It is important to know this distinction because parent training is typically coded as family therapy without patient present. If you insurance does not cover this approach and you want to obtain insurance reimbursement then you must take care not to include this in your treatment. A family therapy session typically begins on the hour and lasts 45 to 50 minutes. In some rare circumstances the session may last as long as 90 minutes. When this is necessary it will have to be discussed with Dr. Shinaver in more detail.
Neurotherapy or Neurofeedback:
Scheduling
Neurotherapy typically runs for 30 minuttes, but the set up and conclusion each take a few minutes. As such a neurotherapy session typically begins on the hour and lasts 45 to 50 minutes in total. In some rare circumstances (for example when a computerized attention test is administered at the end of the session, then session may last as long as 90 minutes). When this is necessary it will have to be discussed with Dr. Shinaver in more detail.
This is neurotherapy conducted at home. Again, the actual time engaged in the task typically runs for 30 minutes, but the set up and conclusion each take a few minutes. However, depending upon the treatment protocol the session may be divided into three 10 minute runs or one 30 minute run. As such a neurotherapy session typically lasts about 45 to 50 minutes in total.
Phone calls less than 5 minutes will not be charged. Phone calls more than 5 minutes will be billed as a consultation call.
Obviously e-mail, due to the tendency toward brevity, is the most efficient and flexibile form of communication. If the relationship due to distance or other constraints could be conducted with e-mail. As they require more than 5 minutes they will be billed.
